The “Cimbalom on the Stage” project presents a series of lectures and concerts
at significant music academies and universities in Europe, the United States, and Canada.
Its aim is to introduce the cimbalom as a fully fledged concert instrument
whose specific sounds and far-reaching possibilities are increasingly
appreciated in the world of concert music.
Daniel Skála, one of the most striking cimbalom players of today,
along with leading players of the young generation, Michal Grombiřík
and Matěj Číp, will introduce the cimbalom in its paramount performance form.
Partly through transcriptions, but especially in music written specifically for the instrument,
they will prove that the cimbalom’s universality and unique sound
can speak to a broad spectrum of listeners.
The project is also an open door for new musical collaborations. Its aim is to build
bridges with leading composers and musicians who can integrate the cimbalom into their
compositions, thus contributing to the instrument’s repertoire. This international
exchange of ideas and inspirations can significantly enrich the future
development of the cimbalom as well as its position within the classical music world.
Another important element in this undertaking is the presentation of instruments made by the HOLAK workshop,
which specialises in top-class concert cimbaloms.
These instruments, built with an emphasis on precision and quality,
represent the absolute pinnacle of their field,
providing players and listeners alike with an exceptional sonic experience.
The project Cimbalom on the Stage was supported by the National Recovery Plan,
by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the European Union.
